kakk kuey = luffa = 水瓜
My ah-ma used to make this dish for me when i was like dunno 3-4yrs old?? hmm. I can never remember wat the veg inside was, except that i know it's very soft, has edible seeds and tastes sweet...Asked my mom if she remembered wat it was that ah-ma cooked, she said: "ohh, it's kakk kuey la!" But somehow i remembered it as "kang kuey". As i tried to explain this veg to my frens, it seemed that none of them knows exactly wat it is... "cooked with egg and prawn one, soft soft one, got seed one", but most of the thinks its "kou kuey" (bitter gourd)
Recently Jimmy got fed up with the suspense (haha) and so we got to the supermarket to check it out (we must be siao liao ^_^;). i think after seeing the shape of the veg no one believed that the veg is soft, haha. luckily i saw it when my mom brought it home one day, else till today i'll still be perplexed by the shape o_O. Its called luffa! what veg on earth gets to have a girly name like dat?? maybe its like some ger; hard and bashful on the outside, soft and gentle on the inside? (oh my god i sound like some hentai :P)Then from the internet, i finally found out that its chinese name is called 水瓜. no. not jui kuei. haha. So if you are reading this crap, maybe u oso finally know what the hell that soft, sweet veggie "always cooked with prawn and egg one" is.
